Saruni Samburu is located inside the Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy, this is a large privately – owned reserve bordering with Samburu National Reserve, the lodge is only 7km away from the border between Kalama and Samburu National Reserve the safaris cover both reserves. Saruni Samburu’s six luxury, eco – chic villas are open and spacious, heralding spectacular views over the Kalama conservancy and Mount Kenya, as it is the only lodge in over 200,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness teeming with wildlife to explore exclusively, and guided by the Samburu warriors passionate about their land and culture, the safari experience at Saruni Samburu is intimate and truly exceptional.

The area around Saruni Samburu is teeming the wildlife, from the giants’ herds of Samburu elephants coming to the waterholes, leopards making their lairs on rocky outcrops nearby, to endangered packs of the African wild dog seen traversing the plains below the saruni Samburu lodge also you can witness the rare endemic species that is the Samburu five that is the Grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Somali ostrich and the gerenuk. The Samburu are the indigenous nomadic tribe and custodians of the area where the lodge is found, here the guests have the great opportunity to witness, interact and learn from on of the oldest remaining tribes in the Africa, the guides are Samburu warriors who are the professionally qualified, but more importantly, they share their authentic local knowledge, ancient traditions and customs with the guests.

Saruni Samburu lodge consists of the 6 spacious and comfortable eco – chic villas which reflects the local building style as mentioned with modern comfort, mosquito nets, flat screen TVS, satellites, hair driers, private wooden balconies and sitting areas, where you can relax while you’re enjoying the stunning view of the distant Mount Kenya, Kalama conservancy camp, water hole and other more surrounding areas. Tents are well decorated and furnished with facilities like the flushing toilets, bath tub/shower with hot and the cold running water. The tents are well equipped with the most amazing and the excellent, comfortable beddings with the queen sized bed. The fire places at the Saruni are also set to provide warmth to the visitors during the late nights with coldness at the lodge, Rooms are in different categories that is single, double, twin, and triple/family tents and rooms cost 200 USD and above (note that according the high season rate is different from that of the low season rate).

How to get from Nairobi to Saruni Samburu.

By Road Transport.

Saruni Samburu can be accessed by both the road and the flight transport from the Nairobi city. Driving from Nairobi takes approximately 5-6 hours on a distance of almost 310 kms. Using Thika Road, headed North towards Nanyuki on the new’Chinese Highway’, keep on the Nyeri Karatina highway and turn right at Marwa Town 12 kms from Karatina town; head North, out of Nanyuki through the Timau and towards Isiolo, basically staying on the main road, from the Isiolo keep going towards Archer’s post.

At exactly 8km after Archer’s post, down on the left hand side, there a post of Kalama conservancy/Saruni camp leave the main road and go through the Kalama conservancy gate, this will take you over 7km to reach inside the Saruni Samburu.

By Flight transport.

There are numerous flights landing at the two nearest airstrips daily on Safari link, Air Kenya and private charters. Kalama Airstrip is just 30 minutes away from the lodge
