Kenya: Visit the stunning Samburu region and stay at Saruni Samburu. Visit Masai mara national reserve as well. Saruni offers breathtaking views of the Samburu from its vantage point atop a naturally occurring rocky outcrop. Every room has an amazing amount of space, an amazing view, and both. You have a choice of two pools, and one of them is situated on the kopje’s highest point, so you can work out while taking in the sights, sounds, and aromas. Upgrade to Sasaab Lodge if you’re searching for something just so slightly more opulent. Sasaab is situated along a small river that flows beneath the resort; this makes it ideal for observing wildlife from the comfort of your own accommodation, as any body of water will almost certainly draw a variety of species to its edges. The lodges’ decor is reminiscent of Africa meets Morocco, with really soft and comfortable sofas with exotic, delicate woven patterns that are perfect for curling up with a good book or simply soaking in the scenery. The meal is very delicious, and the service goes above and beyond to make your safari experience one you won’t soon forget.
Every accommodation at Sasaab features a private plunge pool with a view of the river and amazing open bathrooms (be careful, the monkeys won’t steal anything while you’re gone!). It is mandatory for guests staying at Sasaab Lodge or Saruni Samburu to partake in the cultural safari experiences. The Samburu tribes who surround the camps provide the majority, if not all, of the labor for the staff members at these lodges. We strongly advise you, if you have the opportunity, to visit the Samburu people’s villages; it is one of the most delightful safari experiences. In fact, the Samburu tribes rent their property to these lodges. The Samburu greet you with open arms and genuinely enjoy teaching you about their customs and way of life, as most people ought to do but don’t.
After having the most amazing time in the Samburu, board a plane (we also provide private charters for those who want an even more amazing experience) and travel to the Maasai mara national reserve. I have divided the three groups into three categories authentic, boutique, and luxury in order to help you limit down your options. Situated within the 74,000-acre Mara North Conservancy, Offbeat Mara is a tiny, intimate, and traditional camp that falls under our authentic camp category. It is also one of our personal favorites. At least three resident prides of lions surround this camp, so there’s always a chance of some fantastic wildlife action. There are just seven traditional canvas tents, a main mess area with a bar that’s always fully stocked with whatever you want, and incredible wildlife viewing opportunities.
Our second camp, Richard’s River Camp, is operated under the boutique brand. This small, intimate camp is little more boutique than Offbeat Mara, but it shares a lot of the same stylistic elements. Featuring gorgeous soft furnishings in your tented rooms, running faucets, and an outdoor shower (Offbeat offers real, really warm bucket showers). Everything at Richard’s is perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor; the meal and wine are to die for.
Lastly, Mara Plains is the only place to go if you’re searching for true luxury in the Maasai Mara. Everything at Mara Plains is authentic and boutique, but it’s done in an opulent manner. Inspired by the surrounding wilderness and the ancient Maasai tribes, the tented suites provide a hint of Morocco. The location, the food, and the guides are all amazing; you hardly need to do anything because it has probably already been done.
Finally, it’s definitely time for you to head to a beach for some relaxation after feeling so overwhelmed by your safari experience.
