Saving the Animals at Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Saving the Animals at Ol Pejeta Conservancy : Sometimes not the best-known park in Kenya but possibly the most varied, Ol Pejeta is the reserve nearest to Nairobi where you can spot all of Africa’s “Big Five” wildlife. But in addition to elephants and big cats, the park serves as a haven for a number of threatened species.
At the unique enclosure inside the reserve, you can witness chimpanzees for the first time in Kenya. Additionally, this is the largest black rhino refuge in East Africa.

These wild and endangered species populations flourish in a park renowned for its vibrant array of landforms, including marshes, riverine forests, grasslands, and shrubs. Ol Pejeta is the ideal day vacation destination because there is so much to take in and it is only a short drive from Nairobi.

Sweetwaters Sanctuary.

Sweetwaters, the sole chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, is a mystical place where chimpanzees that have been hurt, abandoned, or orphaned are taken in and given the care they need to recover. More than forty rescued chimpanzees can live out their lives in a wild but safe setting in this spacious, natural habitat. You’ll delight in these animated and highly intelligent critters’ sophisticated gymnastics and entertaining antics.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute founded the refuge, which gives fortunate guests access to information on the treatment and rehabilitation of these amazing chimpanzees. Observe them as they stroll around the pathways, investigate, and groom one another.

The Endangered Species Enclosure.

The majority of safari visitors are unaware that rhinos are a threatened species. Over the years, poachers have reduced their numbers dramatically, but resourceful inventions are now preserving them in a safe environment where they can proliferate and prosper.

The spacious enclosure allows the rhinos to walk around freely and be seen, but knee-high poles around the edges keep them from straying into places where they could be shot and used for horn trade.

Other threatened species that call Ol Pejeta home include the African wild dog, Jackson’s hartebeest, Oryx, bat-eared fox, and Grevy’s zebra.

Unusual Ol Pejeta.

As an all-around wildlife park, Ol Pejeta’s adaptability is enhanced by the safari activities it offers that are uncommon in most reserves. Since it’s a private area rather than a public park, guests can enjoy spectacular night safaris. Get into a 4×4 Jeep and drive through the shady savannahs, searching for a leopard’s reflection in the distance. Your safari will take on an exciting new dimension when you hear the sounds of animals calling at night and rustling in the bushes.

A midday cycling safari will bring you up close and personal with grazing animals as you bike past on the rolling plains; it may be less spectacular, but it’s definitely unique and exciting.

Additionally, this is one of the very few parks that offers horseback riding safaris for a totally unique safari experience. Imagine approaching an impala, zebra, gazelle, or even a rhino that is grazing at a canter. An incredibly amazing moment.

Community.

Ol Pejeta is extensively involved in community projects that assist the local people, which is appropriate for such an environmentally conscious reserve. A few of the initiatives benefit the local students by offering instruction and computer skills training.

In addition to lowering the demand for precious firewood, your help here also gives families in the community energy-efficient stoves and medical supplies to the nearby clinics.

Ol Pejeta is extremely close to Nairobi, but it offers a wide range of wildlife and sceneries while safeguarding endangered species. Spend an amazing day exploring this outstanding conservation.
